Menstrual Hygiene Products

The Studio is THRILLED to now be carrying Saalt menstrual discs and cups at both of our Studio locations.

You might be reading this wondering what discs and cups are/how they work/etc.

Well we're here to break down not only what our Saalt discs and cups are but also the pros and cons to other menstrual hygiene products so you can be educated and empowered in choosing cost effective, safe, sustainable, comfortable, and useful products that are best for you!

What do all of these products have in common?

They manage menstrual bleeding during the period/menstrual phase of your cycle.

What makes all of these products different?

Discs:

-pros: GREAT for those who experience heavy bleeding (holds up to 5 super tampons), easy to insert, no association with toxic shock syndrome, can be worn for 12 hours, a one time purchase that lasts 3-5 years, can be worn for mess free intercourse/sex, decreases cramps, great for the environment, medical grade silicone promotes normal vaginal pH, more comfortable to wear than most tampons

-cons: could potentially leak

Cups:

-pros: GREAT for those who experience heavy bleeding, no association with toxic shock syndrome, can be worn for 12 hours, a one time purchase that lasts 3-5 years, decreases cramps, great for the environment, medical grade silicone promotes normal vaginal pH, more comfortable to wear

-cons: could potentially leak, potentially difficult to insert/remove

Tampons:

-pros: quick and easy to use, most have a mess free applicator, inserted vaginally, prevents menstrual blood from exiting the vaginal opening/introitus

-cons: a monthly expense (just expensive in general), directly associated with toxic shock syndrome, negatively alters vaginal pH, bad for the environment, most brands contain carcinogenic chemicals

Pads:

-pros: great for new period participants, good option for those who experience low amounts of bleeding

-cons: a monthly expense, negatively alters vaginal pH, bad for the environment, can cause skin irritation, most brands contain carcinogenic chemicals

Period Underwear:

-pros: GREAT for those with minimal amounts of bleeding, GREAT for the environment, saves you money washing instead of throwing away pads

-cons: potentially not a good option for those with heavy amounts of bleeding
