why Balance & consistency should be your 2024 goals

I reviewed through all of our blog posts and podcast episodes of the past year for inspiration moving into the New Year-and I found there were two common topics that contribute to your overall wellness: consistency and balance.
In ALL areas of your life these two tenets are the key to being healthy and well. Our brain wants an instant result to feed our dopamine response that keeps us coming back for more. But so much of wellness is not that. It's not instant, it requires commitment and longterm investment to making wiser choices for our health.
This 2024 we'll be sharing information to help you be consistent and balanced in many different areas of your life such as: physical, emotional, sexual, financial, occupational, medical wellness and more.
I'll begin by sharing my experience so far with balance and consistency related to pregnancy. I am currently 7 months pregnant with my first child and what an eye opening journey it has been so far. I'm going to be very transparent with you as I share this story. Prior to becoming pregnant I had a birth control device, an IUD, for 4 years. I wanted to prevent pregnancy during my time in physical therapy school and at the time I didn't want a different family dynamic than what I currently had (my husband and two dogs + some cats along the way). After I graduated PT school and finished my board exams successfully I really wanted to see what my body was like without hormonal birth control so I had my IUD removed. Then my primary form of birth control was tracking my cycle for about 6 months. At around that time we (my husband and I) decided having a baby would be a blessing in our life and much more doable as a family that it would have been in the past. Now-here I am, 3 months away from meeting our baby. Throughout this, the time I had my IUD, the time I was off birth control tracking my cycle, and honestly years before I was even married one thing has been very consistent for me and it's exercise. During my first trimester from about week 6 to week 15 I felt really awful-lots of emotions on the negative side, lots of nausea, and a LOT of fatigue and lack of motivation. I kept moving-1, because I had to for work and 2, I ALWAYS felt better after a Studio class or walk. Throughout my second trimester my body has changed DRASTICALLY and quicker than I could have ever imagined possible which typically leads to pain and other problems-however I've felt pretty dang good. I know this is because of my exercise and movement routine (based in consistency and balance). It's what I treat as a pelvic health physical therapist for my patients who are pregnant, it's what I teach in The Studio's prenatal program, and now it's what I'm living out through my pregnancy.
This rings true for everyone-your body isn't going to stay the same. Your circumstances in your life aren't going to stay the same. You will continually face challenges and changes from the day you're born to the day you die. What you can do to manage and live well through all of this is find balance and consistency in as many areas of your life as possible. While we'll continue to offer guidance and advice on many different areas through the blog and podcast- we can guarantee you'll be guided and supported to be the most balanced and consistent version of yourself with exercise through The Studio whether in person or on Studio Stream. A gym that recommends a "hell week" or "as many classes as possible" or even primarily celebrates your quantative accomplishments-it's just not in for 2024-you heard it hear first.
